Karatyaachi Kismoor (with onion)
It is a Goan side dish prepared from bitter gourd and coconut.
Measurement: 1 cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3 to 4
- Bitter gourd -1/4 kg
- Onion (chopped) – 1 medium
- Scrapped fresh coconut – 1 1/2 cups
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Tamarind pulp – 1 tbsp
- Sugar – just a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil (preferably edible coconut oil) – 2 tbsp
- Scrape bitter gourd skin and finely chop them.
- Rub 3/4 tsp salt and keep it aside at least for 1 hr.
- After 1 hr, squeeze it.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan and spread the chopped bitter gourd.
- It should be fried on low flame till crispy and brown.
- Take a mixing bowl and mix all the ingredients numbering 3 to 8.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add onion.
- Fry till golden brown.
- Sprinkle a pinch of salt and transfer the mixture to it and mix well. Let it be on low flame for half a min.
- At the time of serving add crispy bitter gourd.
