Dates and Tamarind Chutney
Dates and Tamarind chutney is the most important chutney in the preparation of chaat.
Ingredients:
- Tamarind – 125 gm
- Seedless dates – 8 to 10
- Jaggery (powder/ grated) – 250 gm
- Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
- Cinnamon powder – a pinch
- Black salt – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1 1/4 tsp approx.
Procedure:
- Soak dates and tamarind in warm water for at least half an hour.
- Grind dates and tamarind to make pulp.
- Strain the pulp and add jaggery to it.
- Bring it to boil.
- Add ingredients numbering 4 to 7.
- Mix well.
- Let it cool and store it in a glass jar. (It lasts for 3 to 4 months after refrigeration)
